National Climate Marches - Saturday December 6th, 2008

Thousands will gather to march through London and Glasgow on Saturday 6th of December, coinciding with the pivotal UN international climate talks in Poland. Forming part of a global day of action, the marches will be among many happening in major cities throughout the world, calling on world leaders take the urgent and resolute action needed to prevent runaway climate change.

Climate Action Groups Take Off in Reading

On 28 September 2008, COIN in partnership with Greater Reading Environmental Network hosted a “matchmaker event” aimed at facilitating the formation of Climate Action Groups across Reading. A Climate Action Group is a group formed by local people which takes action on a particular theme of their choice related to climate change over a six-month period.

Of the 40 people who attended the 28 September event, 27 have joined one of the five action groups created on the day.

Energy Question Time Event Oxford

Do you want to know what local politicians are planning to do about climate change? COIN, in partnership with People and Planet is hosting an Question Time event on Energy and Renewables on Friday 14th November from 6.30pm at the Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, New Inn Hall Street, Oxford, OX1 2DH.

The confirmed list of speakers has been modified and now consists of: Andrew Smith MP (Labour, Oxford East), Evan Harris MP (Liberal Democrat, Oxford West), Ed Vaizey MP (Conservative, Wantage), Peter Tatchell (Green Party Political Candidate) and Dr Mark Hinnells (Energy Expert, Environmental Change Institute and Meltwater Ventures).
