How often should I descale my steam oven?

If you only ever bake occasional cakes or steam vegetables, you may only need to clean 1-2 times a year. If you make a regular Sunday roast or twice-weekly sourdough bread, you’re going to need to clean much more often. I use my steam oven a LOT, and ideally I’d clean it around once each month or two.

How do you descale steam?

Seal the unit and turn the steam cleaner on so that it begins heating. Allow the unit to heat up and stay warm for 1-2 hours. After this period of time, use the steam cleaner for about a minute, unplug and allow the unit to cool for 3-4 hours. Once cooled, remove the drain plug and empty the tanks.

  1. Remove the grates and wipe out any loose debris.
  2. Place a large oven-proof pot or pan filled with water (you can also add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the mix).

  4. Turn off the oven, and let it cool.
