What is phytozome database?

What is phytozome database?

Phytozome is a comparative hub for plant genomes that allow users to access, visualize, analyze or download sequenced plant genomes as well as selected genomes and datasets that have been sequenced in other databases. It is the plant genomics portal of the Department of Energy’s Joint Genome Institute.

How do you use a Phytozome?

Go back to one of Gene Pages (click thru on a transcript in Gbrowse), select the sequences tab, and then click “BLAST this sequence PHYTOZOME” to load the BLAST interface. Figure 24. BLAST interface. Genome targets (both unmasked and, where available, masked) can be selected from the set of Phytozome organisms.

How many plant genomes have been sequenced?

Over the past 20 years the sequences of over 1000 plant genomes have been published, representing 788 different species with a high level of diversity.

What is a Phytozome?

Phytozome is the Plant Comparative Genomics portal of the Department of Energy’s Joint Genome Institute. Families of related genes representing the modern descendants of ancestral genes are constructed at key phylogenetic nodes.

What is CDS in biology?

A CoDing Sequence (CDS) is a region of DNA or RNA whose sequence determines the sequence of amino acids in a protein. It should not be mixed up with an Open Reading Frame (ORF), which is a continuous stretch of DNA codons that begins with a start codon and ends at a STOP codon.

Which plant has the largest genome?

Paris japonica
Now THAT’s a genome. A rare Japanese flower named Paris japonica sports an astonishing 149 billion base pairs, making it 50 times the size of a human genome—and the largest genome ever found.

Which crop has largest genome?

The genomes of plants vary greatly in size (see the figure). The smallest known plant genome is that of the carnivorous corkscrew plant, Genlisea aurea, at 63 Mb; the largest is that of the rare Japanese plant, Paris japonica, at 148,000 Mb.

What is the difference between CDS and ORF?

The key difference between CDS and ORF is that CDS is that actual nucleotide sequence of a gene which translates into a protein while ORF is a stretch of DNA sequence that begins with translation initiation site (start codon) and ends with a translation termination site (stop codon). A gene has a coding sequence (CDS).

What is the first plant to be genome sequenced?

Rice was the first sequenced crop genome, paving the way for the sequencing of additional and more complicated crop genomes. The impact that the genome sequence made on rice genetics and breeding research was immediate, as evidence by citations and DNA marker use.
