What would cause both brake lights not to work?

If one or more of your brake lights isn’t working properly, it could mean one of three things: The brake light system fuse is blown, the brake light bulbs are burned out or the brake light wiring switch is broken.

Where is the fuse box for brake lights?

Like all fuses, the brake light system fuse can be found in the power distribution center, which is under the dashboard or tucked away underneath the hood. Never heard of the power distribution center? It’s just the technical name for a fuse box.

What fuse controls brake lights?

The stop lamp fuse is in the left kick panel inside the vehicle. It is a 15amp fuse that powers the stop light switch on the brake pedal.

Why would my tail lights work but not my brake lights?

The most common reason your brake lights are not working but tail lights do is a bad light bulb. It can also be caused by a blown fuse, bad brake light switch, or issues with the wirings. Your vehicle’s taillights are working fine, but the brake lights don’t come on when you press the brakes.

How do I know if my brake light relay is bad?

In case you experience any of these symptoms, consider replacing the defective brake light switch:

  1. Your Brake Lights Don’t Light Up.
  2. Brake Lights Stay On Continuously.
  3. Bad Cruise Control.
  4. Car Won’t Turn On.
  5. ABS Warning Light Comes On.

Why do my tail lights work but not my brake lights?

The most common reason why your tail lights are not working but brake lights are is due to a bad or wrong type of light bulb installed. It can also be caused by a blown fuse, bad wirings, or corroded sockets or plugs. A faulty control light switch could also be to blame.

How do I know if I have a bad brake switch?

If your brake switch malfunctions, the rear brake lights won’t illuminate, and the driver behind you won’t know that you’re slowing down, causing a major safety hazard. Now, this could indicate that a brake light bulb in the rear has burnt out or that you’ve got a defective brake light switch.

Why are my brake lights not working on my Tahoe?

If your Tahoe’s brake light switch checked out ok, and there are no brake lights illuminating at all, inspect the wiring harness going from the brake switch to the bulbs themselves. There could be an issue with frayed wiring, wiring that has lost its ground, or a short/open situation.

How do you test the brake light on a Chevy Tahoe?

You can test whether or not your Tahoe’s brake lights are working all by yourself. Just back up really close to the garage door and push the pedal. You should be able to see the brake lights illuminating the door. If even one of them comes on, you know that the brake light fuse isn’t blown.

How to replace the brake light fuse on a Chevy Tahoe?

Just hook the clip of the light up to a good ground and touch the two metal tabs on top of the fuse. There is no need to pull the fuse for this. It should be “hot” on both sides. If it is not, replace the fuse. If it blows more than once, it’s likely that your Tahoe’s wiring harness has been damaged on the way to the brake lights.

What should I do if my brake light is not working?

Check for a Bad Ground If there is a ground wire running to the brake light switch, make sure that it is secured tightly and corrosion free. If you can’t find the ground wire at all, run a jumper wire to substitute for the ground wire.
