“Whoever controls Halo controls the fate of the universe.” Installation 04, also known as Alpha Halo, or simply Halo, was one of seven ring-shaped superweapons that comprised the Forerunners’ Halo Array. It was located in the Soell system in the Orion Arm and was the closest Halo ring to the human sphere.
How was installation 04 found?
The Covenant discovered the location of Installation 04 after the Covenant Fleet of Particular Justice followed the single UNSC cruiser, the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, which was fleeing from the Fall of Reach through slipspace.

In order to end the threat of the Flood, Master Chief decides to activate a Halo ring under construction in the Ark, destroying the local Flood while sparing the galaxy. The firing tears apart the incomplete Halo and severely damages the Ark as Master Chief, Cortana, and the Arbiter try to escape through the portal.
