What is a psi particle?

What is a psi particle?

psi′ particle. [ sī′prīm′, psī′- ] An electrically neutral meson having a mass 7,213 times that of the electron and a mean lifetime of approximately 1 X 10-20 seconds, composed, like the J/psi particle, of a charm-anticharm quark pair. See Table at subatomic particle.

What is the J particle?

J/psi particle, type of meson consisting of a charmed quark and a charmed antiquark. It has a mass of 3.1 GeV/c2, which is about 3.5 times larger than the mass of a proton.

What is j in particle physics?

J/psi meson

Composition c c
Family Mesons
Interactions Strong, weak, electromagnetic, gravity
Symbol J/ψ
Antiparticle Self

What is the mass of the lightest vector meson?

The fact that the I = 1 rho meson (ρ) and I = 0 omega meson (ω) have nearly equal mass centered on 770–780 MeV/c2, while the phi meson (φ) has a higher mass around 1020 MeV/c2, indicates that the light-quark vector mesons appear in nearly pure states, with the φ meson having a nearly 100 percent amplitude of hidden …

What do strange quarks do?

−3 MeV/c2. Like all quarks, the strange quark is an elementary fermion with spin 12, and experiences all four fundamental interactions: gravitation, electromagnetism, weak interactions, and strong interactions.

What is a pseudoscalar particle?

Pseudoscalar particles, i.e. particles with spin 0 and odd parity, that is, a particle with no intrinsic spin with wave function that changes sign under parity inversion. Examples are pseudoscalar mesons.

Why is the pion a pseudoscalar?

The answer is based on a comment by Cosmas Zachos. The pion has no spin, and so can’t flip the spin of either nucleon in the deuteron. The nucleons in the deuteron have their spins aligned (S=1), so the two neutrons in the final state must be in a spin triplet as well.

What do electrons taste like?

However, we cannot taste electrons themselves, as taste-receptor proteins on the taste receptor cells are not activated by electrons. Instead, electrical currents stimulate taste receptors directly by depolarizing the cell membrane, without the need of activation of the proteins that normally bind ions or molecules.

What is a Strangelet bomb?

lɪt/) is a hypothetical particle consisting of a bound state of roughly equal numbers of up, down, and strange quarks. An equivalent description is that a strangelet is a small fragment of strange matter, small enough to be considered a particle.
