What is difference between handover and Redirection?

What is difference between handover and Redirection?

If the cell change happens while UE is in idle mode, we call it ‘Cell Reselection’. and if the cell change happens while UE is in communication mode after radio bearer setup, we call it ‘Handover’. Actually ‘Redirection’ is not the unique cocept in LTE, we have been using this concept almost all the technology.

What is RRC release?

The RRC CONNECTION RELEASE message is used to command the release of an RRC connection. E-UTRAN initiates the RRC connection release procedure to an UE in RRC_CONNECTED state. The RRC CONNECTION RELEASE procedure with redirection information can also be used for CS-fallback to GERAN or UTRAN.

What is blind redirection?

Blind handover or redirection refers to that a base station directly orders a UE to switch or redirect to a certain target cell without requiring the UE to measure an adjacent cell and to report a measurement result.

What is cell reselection in LTE?

Cell Re selection is a procedure used to change the cell after the UE is camped on a cell and stays in the Idle mode. This procedure is used to let the UE get camped on a cell which has the best radio conditions among all the other cells on which the UE is allowed to camp on.

What is the difference between a cell change order and a handover?

A Cell Change Order procedure enables 2G/3G/4G systems to trigger a mobile to move to a target cell without the benefit of a handover procedure, i.e. resources will not be waiting in the target cell.

What is IRAT in telecommunication?

IRAT stands for Inter Radio Access Technology. RAT can be either GSM,CDMA,WiMAX,LTE,TD-SCDMA or any other wireless technology used to provide air interface to mobile to obtain various services(voice, email, internet,VOIP).

What is NAS and RRC?

The RRC is the highest layer in the control plane of the Access Stratum (AS). The RRC also transfers messages of the Non-Access Stratum (NAS), which is located above the RRC layer. NAS messages are used to control communications between a UE and the Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

What does RRC stand for in LTE?

The Radio Resource Control (RRC) protocol is used in UMTS, LTE and 5G on the Air interface. It is a layer 3 (Network Layer) protocol used between UE and Base Station.

What is 3G handover?

3G UMTS soft handover Soft handover is a form of handover that was enabled by the introduction of CDMA. Soft handover occurs when a UE is in the overlapping coverage area of two cells. Links to the two base stations can be established simultaneously and in this way the UE can communicate with two base stations.

What are the four possible handover scenarios in GSM?

Scenario 1 is Intra cell handover label by 1 Scenario 2 is inter cell, Intra BSC handover since device is going from cell 1 to cell 2 Scenario 3 is Inter BSC Intra MSC handover Scenario 4 Inter MSC handover First 2 type of handovers are called internal handover lasttwo are called external handover.

What is SIB and MIB in LTE?

Carries physical layer information of LTE cell which in turn help receive further SIs, i.e. system bandwidth. SIB1. Contains information regarding whether or not UE is allowed to access the LTE cell.

What is qRxLevMin in LTE?

Qrxlevemeas is RSCP level measured by UE and qRxLevMin is the value specified in SIB. Squal = Qqualmeas – qQualMin. Qqualmeas is EcNo level measured by UE and qQualMin is the value specified in SIB. The detection measurement of LTE frequencies should be done at least once every 60s for higher priority LTE frequencies.

What is PS handover?

PS Handovers requires the target cell to setup dedicated resources for an incoming UE. The source cell queries the target cell for the resources, and then communicate them to the UE to access the target cell. This bypasses the RRC connection setup procedure, thus minimizing the data flow interruptions.

What are the types of handover in LTE?

LTE supports two types of handover: X2-based handover and S1-based handover.

What is IRAT in 5g?

Inter-RAT (IRAT) handover A mobile terminal, while connected using a RAT, performs neighbour cell measurements and sends measurement report to the network. Based on this measurement report provided by the mobile terminal, the network can initiate handover from one RAT to another, e.g. from WCDMA to GSM or vice versa.

What is LTE handover?

Abstract: Handover in LTE occurs when a device moves from the cell coverage serving it towards another; a process where the user established session must not be interrupted due to this cell change.

What is LTE call flow?

The LTE call flow navigates over the elements of the network going through certain steps in order to complete its end-to-end signaling from the user equipment (UE) all the way to the rest of the network components.

What is Layer 3 in LTE?

The Radio Resource Control (RRC) protocol is used in UMTS, LTE and 5G on the Air interface. It is a layer 3 (Network Layer) protocol used between UE and Base Station. This protocol is specified by 3GPP in TS 25.331 for UMTS, in TS 36.331 for LTE and in TS 38.331 for 5G New Radio.

What is NAS layer in LTE?

Non-access stratum (NAS) is a functional layer in the NR, LTE, UMTS and GSM wireless telecom protocol stacks between the core network and user equipment. This layer is used to manage the establishment of communication sessions and for maintaining continuous communications with the user equipment as it moves.

What is UMTS handoff?

3G UMTS soft handover Soft handover occurs when a UE is in the overlapping coverage area of two cells. Links to the two base stations can be established simultaneously and in this way the UE can communicate with two base stations.
