Where is the Sliding Rock?

Sliding Rock is 7 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway on US 276 South in the Pisgah National Forest. Although not technically a waterfall, this natural rock water slide is a place you can slide down 60 feet and plunge into a deep water pool.

What is the best time to go to Sliding Rock?

Go on a weekday when it is less crowded. Arrive before 11:00 a.m. or after 3:00 p.m. to avoid the crowds. If the parking lot is full, the park will close the entrance to additional visitors. There are cubbyholes for belongings in the restrooms, but they cannot be secured.

Why is Sliding Rock falls closed?

While the area is usually open 365 days a year, it has been closed since August 2021 after a tropical storm did severe damage throughout the Pisgah National Forest. After water levels rose, staff found bridges out, trails eroded and trees down, according to the National Forests in North Carolina site.

Is Sliding Rock Safe?

The pool at the bottom of the falls is eight feet deep so it’s not safe for those who are unable to handle the plunge and depth. Slide in seated position only. Children younger than 7 years old must slide with an adult. Sliding Rock will be closed when lifeguards determine it is unsafe to slide.

Can you swim in Looking Glass falls?

Swimming is allowed at the falls, but swim at your own risk and don’t climb on or around the rocks or cliff. The lower viewing platform and surrounding rock outcrops are great places to take in the waterfall’s beauty – and a gorgeous place for a picnic.

Slide Rock includes a 1/2 mile of Oak Creek that is open for swimming, wading and sliding. The world-famous slide that our park is named for is an 80 foot-long slippery chute that is worn into sandstone.
